GVSU softball faces Purdue Northwest in GLIAC doubleheader

The Grand Valley State softball team is gearing up to face Purdue Northwest in a GLIAC doubleheader in Hammond, Indiana, on Wednesday, April 9. The first game is set to begin at 2:00 PM ET.

GVSU enters the match with a 16-20 record for the season and a 7-7 record in the GLIAC. Recently, the Lakers had a mixed performance, splitting a doubleheader against Wayne State last Friday and losing both games to Saginaw Valley State on Sunday.

Freshman Madelynn Pope is a leading performer for the Lakers, boasting a .357 batting average, seven triples, and 19 RBIs. Junior Elizabeth Wesoloski leads the team with 37 RBIs, while sophomore Faith Edwards tops the Lakers with 24 runs scored and 10 stolen bases. Freshman Grace Usher has hit two home runs and eight doubles.

The Lakers' pitching staff has maintained a team ERA of 3.16. Freshman Karli Dorr has recorded a 2.67 ERA with 10 complete games and 90 strikeouts, and junior Nevaeh Ingram holds a 2.99 ERA with 13 complete games and 69 strikeouts.

Purdue Northwest, with a season record of 8-25-1, is at the bottom of the GLIAC standings with a 3-11 conference record. Amanda DeBoer leads the team with a .364 batting average, while Olivia Hernandez has four home runs and 27 RBIs. The Pride's pitching staff has a 6.23 team ERA this season, with Rylan Gick leading with 57 strikeouts.
