Grand Valley State hosts GLIAC doubleheaders against Ferris State and Davenport

The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) softball team is set to host two doubleheaders this weekend as part of their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) schedule. On Saturday, April 12, the Lakers will face off against Ferris State at 1:00 PM, followed by a matchup against Davenport on Sunday, April 13, at the same time. These home games mark an opportunity for the Lakers to improve their current season record of 16-20 and GLIAC standing of 7-7.

The Lakers recently split a doubleheader on the road against Wayne State but did not fare as well in their following games, losing both to Saginaw Valley State.

Among the Lakers, freshman Madelynn Pope stands out with a .357 batting average, providing 37 hits and seven triples. She contributes a home run, six doubles, and has driven in 19 runs. Junior Elizabeth Wesoloski has been a key player with a .314 batting average and leads the team in runs batted in with 37. Additionally, sophomore Faith Edwards has scored 24 runs and is notable for her 10 stolen bases. Freshman Grace Usher is also showing promise with a .300 average, including two home runs and eight doubles.

The Lakers' pitching staff, with a combined 3.16 ERA, has seen notable performances from freshman Karli Dorr and junior Nevaeh Ingram. Dorr has achieved a 2.67 ERA and accumulated 90 strikeouts over 10 complete games. Ingram has maintained a 2.99 ERA with 69 strikeouts over 13 complete games.

Ferris State approaches the weekend in second place in the GLIAC, possessing an 8-6 conference record and an overall record of 19-11. The Bulldogs boast a .270 team batting average and a 3.39 team ERA. Key players include Alexis Kozlowski, who has appeared in all 30 games with a .341 batting average, alongside Catherine O'Donohue, who holds an 8-1 pitching record with a 2.88 ERA.

The Davenport Panthers, with a 16-18 overall and 7-7 conference record, play at Purdue Northwest on Saturday before heading to Allendale. The team has a .245 batting average and a 3.42 ERA. Savanna Disbrow and Hailey Whisman are notable contributors, with Disbrow maintaining a .330 batting average and Whisman posting a 2.95 ERA.
