GVSU softball splits doubleheader against Ferris State at home

The Grand Valley State softball team faced Ferris State in a doubleheader at home, resulting in a split. The first game ended with a loss for the Lakers, with Ferris State winning 7-4 after eight innings. The Bulldogs first scored in the third inning, taking a 2-0 lead. GVSU responded in the fifth with MaryJane Goodman contributing a triple that scored Madelynn Pope.

Elizabeth Wesoloski hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning, putting the Lakers ahead 3-2. Ferris State regained the lead in the seventh, but a key RBI single by Wesoloski tied the game at four, sending it into extra innings. In the eighth, Ferris State scored three runs, sealing their victory.

Wesoloski had an impressive game, batting 3-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Madelynn Pope and others contributed with hits, while Karli Dorr pitched all eight innings for GVSU.

The second game favored Grand Valley State, who won 3-2. Ferris State first scored via a sacrifice fly in the third inning. GVSU responded with two runs, including a game-tying RBI single by Carsyn Segorski. A strategic play allowed the Lakers to take the lead, which they maintained to secure the win.

Carsyn Segorski and Morgan Spicer had successful outings, going 2-3 at the plate. Nevaeh Ingram, the starting pitcher, earned the win after pitching seven innings and limiting Ferris State to two runs.

The Lakers will continue their series at home with a doubleheader against Davenport on April 13, with games available for live streaming on FloSports.
