Grand Valley State triumphs over Concordia-St. Paul on Senior Day

The women's lacrosse team from Grand Valley State University (GVSU) secured a victory against Concordia-St. Paul, with the Lakers finishing 10-5 in their latest match. This win marks GVSU's 11-5 record overall and a flawless 6-0 in league competition. The match coincided with the team's Senior Day, honoring players Sema Hasanof, Kaylyn Cater, Zoe Ziegler, Karleigh Rothe, and Ashleigh Rothe, who have collectively achieved 63 wins, three GLIAC regular season titles, three GLIAC tournament titles, and one regional championship.

GVSU started strong with Gracie Bancroft scoring first, assisted by Kendra Swope. Swope furthered the lead with her own goal, establishing an early 2-0 advantage. Despite Concordia-St. Paul cutting the lead in half, the Lakers responded with goals from Zoe Ziegler, Swope, Ashleigh Rothe, and another from Ziegler, bringing the score to 6-2 after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Concordia-St. Paul added two goals, narrowing the gap. However, Indira Marker extended GVSU's lead resulting in a 7-4 score by halftime. Ziegler was prominent throughout the game, scoring multiple times. In the third quarter she added another goal, followed by one more early in the fourth quarter to make it 9-4. Concordia-St. Paul added their fifth goal, followed by Bancroft scoring the concluding goal for GVSU.

Ziegler led the game with four goals, achieving them on five attempts. Bancroft and Swope each contributed two goals, while Marker and Ashleigh Rothe each scored once. Rothe delivered two assists, with Swope adding one. GVSU excelled in draw controls, winning 14 of 19, led by Kayleigh Sandell and Ella Boose.

In goalkeeping, Kaylyn Cater recorded four saves in the first half, while Sarah Krause added three in the second. Ashleigh Rothe was active defensively, picking up five groundballs and causing three turnovers. Elora Ferrie and Karleigh Rothe each caused two turnovers.

Looking ahead, the Lakers will conclude their home schedule by hosting Davenport next Friday at 7:00 PM.
