The Grand Valley State (GVSU) softball team ended a successful weekend by winning both games of their doubleheader against Davenport on Sunday afternoon. The Lakers now have a season record of 19-21 and a GLIAC record of 10-8 after victories of 12-4 in five innings in the first game and 11-4 in the second game.

In the first game, Davenport took an early lead with two runs in the first inning. However, GVSU responded with three runs in the third inning, with significant contributions from Faith Edwards and Elizabeth Wesoloski, who hit a two-run home run, her third of the season. An explosive eight-run fourth inning put the Lakers ahead, highlighted by Madelynn Pope's triple that brought in two runs and Wesoloski’s second home run of the game. Despite a late run from Davenport, GVSU secured the mercy rule win with an infield single from Grace Usher.

Elizabeth Wesoloski was a standout in the match, hitting 2-4 with two home runs and four RBIs. Faith Edwards, Morgan Spicer, Eliana Eiland, and Madelynn Pope also contributed offensively. Pitcher Karli Dorr earned the win, allowing two runs off two hits in four innings with five strikeouts.

In the second game, GVSU started strong with a six-run first inning. Contributions came from several players, including Grace Usher and Kylie Sinal, who hit a three-run double. GVSU continued to dominate with a five-run fourth inning, including a three-run home run by Madelynn Pope. Although Davenport managed three runs in the fifth, the game ended in GVSU’s favor.

Madelynn Pope led offensively for the Lakers, hitting 2-2 and driving in four runs alongside a home run. Morgan Spicer and Kylie Sinal were key contributors, and Karli Dorr and Elizabeth Wesoloski each scored twice. Pitcher Nevaeh Ingram earned the win with four innings pitched and allowing one run off four hits.

GVSU's next game is a GLIAC doubleheader against Purdue Northwest on Tuesday, April 15, set to start at 1:00 PM ET. Both games will be available for live streaming on FloSports.
