The Grand Valley State University softball team achieved a clean sweep against Purdue Northwest in Hammond, Indiana, enhancing their ongoing winning streak to five games. This doubleheader victory on April 15 took their overall record to 21-21 for the season and 12-8 conference-wise in the GLIAC.
In the opening game, GVSU emerged victorious with a narrow 7-6 win. Elizabeth Wesoloski made an early impact by hitting a two-run home run, marking her fifth of the season and fourth in five games. The game remained competitive as Purdue Northwest managed a five-run rally in the third inning to seize a 6-4 lead. However, Wesoloski's two-run sixth-inning homer helped the Lakers regain the lead. Her stellar performance saw her finishing the game 4-4 at the plate with two home runs. Nevaeh Ingram started as the pitcher and secured the win with a complete seven-inning game.
The second game witnessed GVSU's offensive power, sealing a 10-3 win. After an initial run from Purdue Northwest, GVSU countered with a prolific seven-run second inning. Again, Wesoloski showcased her ability, contributing with a three-run homer. Liv Regenfuss and Jasmine Mauk also made significant contributions with solid hits. Pitcher Kylie Swierkos completed the full game and earned the win by striking out four batters.
GVSU's next fixtures include home doubleheaders against Roosevelt on April 17 and Parkside on April 19. These games will be available for viewing via live stream on FloSports.
