Grand Valley State University (GVSU) and Roosevelt University faced off in a GLIAC softball doubleheader on Thursday, April 17, concluding with each team securing a win. The Lakers of GVSU now hold a 22-22 record this season, including a 13-9 record within the GLIAC conference. The day began with Roosevelt triumphing in the first game, 5-0, but GVSU rallied to win the second game 4-3 with a dramatic walk-off play.
In the first game, Roosevelt struck early with two runs in the third inning thanks to an RBI double and a groundout. They later expanded their lead in the fifth inning with a combination of a two-run double and a GVSU error. Despite the loss, Faith Edwards, Karli Dorr, and Jasmine Mauk each contributed a hit. Dorr pitched all seven innings, allowing four earned runs from five hits while achieving nine strikeouts.
During the second game, Roosevelt once again took an early lead, scoring in the first inning before GVSU tied it in the fourth when Eliana Eiland's single allowed Morgan Spicer to score. Roosevelt quickly regained the lead with two runs in the fifth inning. GVSU fought back with an RBI single from Elizabeth Wesoloski in the bottom of the inning. The tie game was settled when Karli Dorr hit an infield single in the seventh inning, scoring Faith Edwards from third and securing GVSU's victory.
Contributing significantly to the second game, Edwards finished 2-4 at the plate with two runs scored, including the decisive game-winning run. Dorr, responsible for the walk-off RBI, also recorded a hit. Nevaeh Ingram, who started the game, completed all seven innings, allowing three runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts. GVSU's offensive lineup also included RBIs from Eiland and Wesoloski, crucially aiding their win.
Looking ahead, GVSU is set to host Parkside for another GLIAC doubleheader on Saturday, April 19, beginning at 1:00 PM at the GVSU Softball Field.
