GVSU men's golf leads after first day at GLIAC Championship

The GVSU men's golf team has taken the lead after the first day of the GLIAC Championship in Battle Creek, Michigan. Playing the first 18 holes, the Lakers have positioned themselves at the top of the leaderboard, ending the day with a score of 283 (-5), securing a one-stroke lead.

The competition sees Wayne State in second at four under, followed by Roosevelt in third with one under. SVSU holds fourth place at even par, while Davenport, Parkside, and Ferris State are all tied for fifth at one over.

Notably, Manuel Cue Vargas leads the individual competition with a score of 68 (-4) after making seven birdies. In second place, Bryce Wheeler has a score of 69 (-3), with four birdies to his name. Drew Coble is tied for 12th after carding a 72 (E), having made two birdies. Murphy Kehoe is tied for 25th, shooting a 74 (+2) and making three birdies. Charlie Cooley concludes the day in a tie for 40th after scoring 77 (+5) with three birdies.

The Lakers are scheduled to play the second round tomorrow. Should they remain among the top four teams after this round, they will advance to the medal match play semifinals in the afternoon.
