GVSU softball set for final regular-season home games against Saginaw Valley and Wayne State

Grand Valley State University's softball team is preparing for the final weekend of the regular season, hosting Saginaw Valley State on Friday, April 25, and Wayne State on Saturday, April 26, for Senior Day. The Lakers currently hold the second spot in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) standings with a 14-10 conference record and a 23-23 overall record.

In their most recent games, GVSU secured a sweep against Purdue Northwest and split doubleheaders at home with Roosevelt and Parkside. The team has scored 207 runs this season with a .285 batting average, while their pitching staff boasts a 3.06 ERA, placing them second in the GLIAC.

Key performances have come from Elizabeth Wesoloski, who is batting .333 with 49 hits, 36 RBIs, and seven home runs, including three in a recent doubleheader against Purdue Northwest. Grace Usher leads in doubles with ten and maintains a batting average of .301. Faith Edwards has a team-leading on-base percentage of .427, with a .300 batting average.

On the pitching side, Nevaeh Ingram has a 12-8 record with a 2.85 ERA and 89 strikeouts. In a recent game against Parkside, she pitched a one-hit complete game shutout. Karli Dorr has contributed with a 2.92 ERA and leads the team with 113 strikeouts over 13 complete games.

Saginaw Valley State has secured the GLIAC regular season championship with a 21-3 conference record and a 38-10 overall performance. The Cardinals also defeated GVSU in a previous doubleheader. They lead the GLIAC in batting average with .315 and home runs, totaling 42, alongside a team ERA of 2.46.

Wayne State concludes the season with a 23-26 overall record and a 12-12 GLIAC standing. GVSU previously split a doubleheader with them, winning one game 3-1 and losing the other 5-4 in extra innings. The Warriors are on a four-game winning streak, hitting .281 as a team, with a pitching staff posting a 4.34 ERA.
