The Grand Valley State University's women's tennis team secured a 4-3 victory against Wayne State, claiming the GLIAC Tournament Championship for the third time in its history. The Lakers have improved their season record to 15-4 with this win.
Wayne State initially led by securing the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. Estefania Hernandez and Rachel Sam achieved a 6-3 victory in the No. 2 doubles match. However, Neus Ramos and Vale Mozas faced a challenging 1-6 defeat in the top doubles position, while Ipek Sakiroglu and Kalomoira Ralli lost 3-6 at No. 3 doubles.
As the singles matches unfolded, Wayne State extended its lead by claiming the first two matches, taking a 3-0 advantage. Estefania Hernandez narrowed the gap with a three-set 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles. Kalomoira Ralli achieved a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles, and Ipek Sakiroglu further leveled the contest at 3-3 after a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 triumph in the No. 5 singles.
The decisive moment came as Anna Soteras completed the Lakers' comeback by clinching a 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 win at No. 3 singles, securing victory in the tiebreaker 9-7. This win enables GVSU to advance to the NCAA Tournament.
