The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) softball team secured a 3-1 victory over Ferris State in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament. The match took place on Friday in Rosemont, Illinois, initiating GVSU's postseason on a positive note. The Lakers now stand with a season record of 27-24 and are set to face Saginaw Valley State in the tournament's winner's bracket on Saturday at 11:00 AM CT.
GVSU opened the scoring in the second inning. Carsyn Segorski delivered a crucial two-out RBI single to left field, enabling Karli Dorr to score from second base. In the sixth inning, Eliana Eiland provided a key contribution by hitting a double with runners on second and third, bringing home both Morgan Spicer and Dorr. Ferris State managed to score once in the seventh inning, but Nevaeh Ingram secured the game by recording the final out with a tying run on first base.
During the game, GVSU registered nine hits and remained error-free, while Ferris State collected five hits but committed two errors. Eiland stood out by going 2-3 with a double and two RBIs. Spicer added a single and scored the decisive run in the sixth inning. Faith Edwards also hit a double, with Dorr contributing a hit and scoring twice. Segorski, Elizabeth Wesoloski, Grace Usher, and Madelynn Pope chipped in with hits to contribute to the team's success.
Looking ahead, GVSU's upcoming match against Saginaw Valley State on Saturday will determine which team advances to the GLIAC Championship on Sunday. The losing team will face an elimination game later that afternoon at 4:00 PM CT. The games will be available for live streaming on FloSports.
