The Grand Valley State (GVSU) softball team concluded its season with two losses in the GLIAC Tournament held in Rosemont, Illinois. Facing Saginaw Valley State and Parkside in Saturday’s games, the Lakers ended their season with a record of 27-26.
The first game against Saginaw Valley State was tightly contested, remaining scoreless through seven innings. The game was decided in the eighth inning when Saginaw Valley State won 1-0 following an error by GVSU. Faith Edwards and Morgan Spicer managed to secure hits for the Lakers, while pitcher Karli Dorr had a notable performance with zero earned runs allowed off four hits, along with seven strikeouts and no walks.
In their second game against Parkside, GVSU needed a win to stay in the tournament. Parkside took an early lead with a run in the first inning and continued to widen the gap with additional runs in the fifth and seventh innings, securing a 3-0 victory over the Lakers. Madelynn Pope excelled at batting, going 2-3, and Grace Usher contributed with two hits in four at-bats. The team also saw contributions from Faith Edwards, Elizabeth Wesoloski, and Morgan Spicer, who each had a hit. Nevaeh Ingram pitched for GVSU, allowing three runs off six hits with one strikeout during the seven-inning game.
The Lakers' efforts in the tournament conclude their participation for the season as they prepare to regroup and focus on upcoming opportunities.
