Grand Valley State University's head men's wrestling coach, Joey Simcoe, has resigned from his position after three years. The university announced that the search for a new coach will begin immediately.

Director of Athletics Keri Becker acknowledged Simcoe's contributions, stating, "Joey made several contributions to our wrestling program in a very short period of time, and we have a solid foundation to build from and will be able to continue our growth as a varsity sport."

Under Simcoe's leadership, Grand Valley State achieved 13th and 14th place finishes at the NCAA Division II National Championships. During this period, the team produced eight NCAA DII All-Americans.

Simcoe expressed his reasons for stepping down: "This is the right time to step back and take inventory of what I want for the next phase of my career. I want to be a dad and enjoy our son's wrestling career without having to be a coach. We can also get back to our home base and take advantage of some opportunities. We did a lot of great things at Grand Valley State to get the wrestling program off the ground and working towards a top-level Division II team."

Dr. Kurt Patberg from Mammoth Sports Consulting will assist in finding Simcoe's successor.
