Grand Valley State women’s soccer wins road match against Cedarville

The Grand Valley State women's soccer team secured a 3-2 victory against Cedarville on Saturday, marking their second win of the opening weekend of the 2025 season. The Lakers now hold a 2-0 record, while Cedarville stands at 1-1.

Cedarville started strong with an early penalty kick in the second minute to take a 1-0 lead. Grand Valley State responded in the 17th minute when Sarah Fromm capitalized on a turnover, scoring her second goal of the season by sending the ball off the left post and into the net. Cedarville regained their advantage in the 32nd minute through a free kick, making it 2-1.

In the second half, Grand Valley State tied the game at 2-2 in the 49th minute. After hitting the crossbar twice, Mackenzie Ford collected a clearance and scored from outside the box for her first career goal. The Lakers took their first lead in the 80th minute when Cora Conley assisted Fromm, who turned inside the box and scored off the crossbar for her second goal of the match and third of the season. Conley recorded her second assist this year.

During the final ten minutes, Cedarville managed one shot that went high as Grand Valley State maintained their lead to secure the win.

Grand Valley State outshot Cedarville 12-7 overall and had six shots on target compared to four for Cedarville. The Lakers earned four corner kicks while limiting Cedarville to one. Fromm registered two goals on two shots over 59 minutes and notched her second game-winning goal this season. Alli French led with three shots, including one on target. Ford played all ninety minutes and contributed both defensively and offensively with her first collegiate goal. Vesna Dennison added two shots during her time on field.

Looking ahead, Grand Valley State will open its home schedule next weekend by hosting Minnesota State on Friday, September 12 at 7:00 PM and Central Missouri on Sunday, September 14 at noon. Both matches will be available via live stream on FloCollege.
