Grand Valley State University quarterback Andrew Schuster has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Offensive Player of the Week. The announcement follows Schuster’s performance in the Lakers’ 48-36 win over Black Hills State.

Schuster, a redshirt freshman, completed 22 of 32 passes for 391 yards and four touchdowns during the game. His passing yardage set a new freshman record at Grand Valley State and tied for ninth place on the school’s all-time single-game passing list. Schuster distributed passes to ten different receivers, achieved seven completions of 30 yards or more, and led seven scoring drives that each lasted less than two minutes and forty seconds. Five of those touchdown drives covered at least 65 yards.

Through his first two collegiate starts, Schuster has completed 39 of 53 passes (73.5 percent) for 642 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Lakers, currently ranked third nationally, will travel to face #26 Pittsburg State in a non-conference matchup this week. The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Eastern Time.
