Grand Valley State men’s golf opens season in fourth at Folds of Honor Collegiate

The Grand Valley State men's golf team started its season at the Folds of Honor Collegiate tournament held at American Dunes Golf Course in Grand Haven, Michigan. The Lakers, competing as the only non-Division I school in the field, finished the first day in fourth place, trailing the leaders by four strokes.

After 18 holes, Alabama and Notre Dame shared the lead with scores of one over par. Kansas was positioned third at three over par, followed by Grand Valley State at five over. Florida State and Michigan State rounded out the top five with six over par each.

Manuel Cue Vargas led Grand Valley State on the leaderboard after shooting a 70 (-1), making five birdies to tie for fourth place individually. Ryan Gallagher and Maverick Conaway were tied for 13th after both posted rounds of 72 (+1). Gallagher made one birdie during his round while Conaway recorded three. Bryce Wheeler and Charlie Cooley each shot a 75 (+4) and were tied for 39th; Wheeler finished with two birdies and Cooley had one.

Grand Valley State is scheduled to begin round two early tomorrow morning at 7:30 am, starting on hole 10. They will again be paired with Ohio State and Baylor.
