Speaker Matt Hall, a member of the Michigan House of Representatives, used his social media platform to share recent legislative actions and criticize political opponents in a series of posts published on September 8 and 9, 2025.
On September 8, Hall posted about education funding and reform efforts, stating: "While Democrats spend their sweet time protesting on the street, we took action to support:
- record school funding, 20% more than the Dem proposal
-hearing directly from teachers and students to better understand the tools they need to succeed
-an education reform plan that https://t.co/elLvAeDpHD" (September 8, 2025).
The following day, Hall highlighted a visit with Secretary of Education McMahon to Detroit schools. He wrote: "Sec of Education @EDSecMcMahon and I visited several great schools in Detroit today. We wanted to hear directly from teachers, students and administrators about what they need to succeed -- we heard some great perspective and interesting ideas.
The Trump Administration is https://t.co/lwg7ZWD2Mg" (September 9, 2025).
Later that day, Hall criticized Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s legal record. He stated: "Once again, Attorney General Dana Nessel is playing politics instead of doing her job. And, once again, she’s failing.
She lost the Flint water case. She lost on Line 5. She loses when she fights President Trump. She loses all the time, and the taxpayers spend millions of" (September 9, 2025).
These statements come as debates over public education funding continue in Michigan. School finance has been a central issue for state lawmakers in recent years as districts face rising costs and calls for improved educational outcomes. The mention of Detroit schools reflects ongoing efforts by state officials to engage with local educators amid these policy discussions.
Attorney General Dana Nessel has been involved in several high-profile cases during her tenure. Her handling of litigation related to the Flint water crisis and Enbridge's Line 5 pipeline have drawn both support and criticism from different political factions within Michigan.
