Grand Valley State women’s golf second after day one at Folds of Honor Challenge

The Grand Valley State women's golf team began their season by hosting the Folds of Honor Challenge in Allendale, Michigan. After the first day of the three-day event, the Lakers are in second place, trailing Findlay by nine strokes. Findlay leads at one under par, while Grand Valley State finished eight over par for the opening round.

West Texas A&M, Odessa, and UIndy are tied for third place at 14 over par after day one.

Freshman June Hsiao made a strong debut for Grand Valley State, finishing her first collegiate round in third place with a score of 70 (-1), including four birdies. She is two strokes behind the leader. Charlotte Goersch is tied for seventh after carding a 72 (+1) with two birdies. Senior Rachael Krieger finished her round with a 74 (+3) and two birdies to tie for 13th place. Lea Stotz recorded three birdies during her round of 76 (+5), tying her for 19th. Heida Rafnsdottir ended day one tied for 25th after shooting a 78 (+7) with one birdie.

Three additional individuals competed for Grand Valley State as well. Skyler Tierney shot a 79 (+8) with four birdies to tie for 29th place. Evelyn Park is tied for 32nd after posting an 80 (+9) and making one birdie. Lorena Saquicoray is tied for 48th at +18 following an opening-round score of 89.

Round two will begin in the afternoon, with the first Laker golfer scheduled to tee off at 1:10 p.m.
