The Grand Valley State University men's golf team maintained its lead after the second round of the Folds of Honor Challenge at Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Michigan. The team recorded a score of 289 (+5) for the day, bringing their total to +4 and holding a four-stroke advantage over Wayne State and Mississippi Gulf Coast, both tied for second place at nine over par. Odessa and Aurora are tied for fourth with scores of +15.
Three GVSU golfers—Bryce Wheeler, Charlie Cooley, and Andrew Gwilliams—are tied for second place individually at even par after two rounds. Gwilliams shot an even-par 71 with three birdies during the round. Wheeler posted a 72 (+1) that included five birdies, while Cooley finished with a 73 (+2), three birdies, and an eagle.
Manuel Cue Vargas and Murphy Kehoe are tied for sixth at one over par. Cue recorded an even-par 71 with two birdies, while Kehoe had four birdies in his round of 72. Maverick Conaway made one birdie on his way to a 73, placing him in a tie for 14th at three over par.
Ryan Gallagher is tied for 25th at six over after carding a 76 (+5) with one birdie. Emil Olofsson also scored three birdies in his round of 76 to finish tied for 30th at eight over par. Finley Dober shot a 79 to tie for 40th place at +11.
The next round will see the first GVSU golfer tee off at 12:20 p.m., followed by the starting five beginning their rounds at 1:20 p.m., paired alongside Wayne State and Mississippi Gulf Coast.
