Grand Valley State men’s golf leads UIndy Invitational after opening rounds

The Grand Valley State University men's golf team is leading after the first day of play at the UIndy Fall Invitational in Indianapolis, Indiana. The tournament began on Monday morning but was interrupted by rain, which delayed play and prevented the completion of the second round.

Grand Valley State finished the first day with a score of 28 under par, holding a 15-stroke advantage over Hillsdale, which ended at 13 under par. Ferris State is currently third at five under par, followed by Gannon in fourth place at two under. McKendree and Missouri S&T are tied for fifth at one under par.

On the individual leaderboard, Bryce Wheeler leads after shooting 11 under par with 12 birdies and an eagle. Andrew Gwilliams is in second place at ten under par with 10 birdies. Charlie Cooley is tied for fifth after finishing five under with seven birdies. Manuel Cue Vargas ended two under to tie for 12th place, while Maverick Conaway shot even par to tie for 20th. Ryan Gallagher is tied for 59th at six over par.

The team will finish round two on Tuesday morning before proceeding directly into the final round.

"The Lakers completed one full round, and most of a second, but rain forced play to be delayed, and the second round could not be completed," according to event organizers.
