Grand Valley State University’s women’s soccer team saw two of its players recognized by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) as Players of the Week. Sophomore forward Sarah Fromm and freshman goalkeeper Macie Hunter were honored by the league office, marking the first time this season that Grand Valley State has received both weekly awards.
Sarah Fromm was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. Last weekend, she contributed a goal and an assist to help her team secure victories over Parkside and Purdue Northwest. Fromm scored the decisive goal in the 77th minute during a 1-0 win against Parkside, giving her five goals for the season. She also assisted on what proved to be the game-winning goal in a 2-0 victory at Purdue Northwest. Fromm currently leads Grand Valley State with five goals and 12 points.
Freshman Macie Hunter earned her first GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week award after starting as goalkeeper in both matches last weekend and recording shutouts in each. She made two saves in Friday’s 1-0 home win over Parkside and followed up with another clean sheet during Sunday’s match at Purdue Northwest, which ended 2-0. So far this season, Hunter has appeared in six games with five starts, maintaining a perfect record without conceding any goals. She has posted five consecutive individual shutouts since conference play began.
This is also the third straight week that at least one player from Grand Valley State has received a player of the week honor from GLIAC.
