Twenty-one athletes from Grand Valley State University will compete at the Jayhawk Invitational hosted by Muskegon Community College on Saturday. The men's collegiate 8k race is scheduled to start at noon, followed by the women's 5k race at 1 p.m.

The Grand Valley State men's team will be represented by sixteen runners, including eight true freshmen, three redshirt-freshmen, two redshirt-sophomores, and three redshirt-juniors. Redshirt-freshman Jacob Esser holds the fastest time among them in the 8000m with a mark of 25:23.0, while true freshman Seppi Camilli follows closely with a time of 25:30.2.

On the women's side, five true freshmen will compete for Grand Valley State. Grace Oberski and Mackenzie Sellenraad are entering their third race of the season, but this will be their first appearance in a 5000m event for GVSU. Chloe DeRidder, Kamryn Lauinger, and Sydney Roberts will make their debuts in Lakers uniforms.

This competition is one of two meets for the Lakers before postseason events begin. The postseason starts on October 25 when twenty-four Grand Valley State athletes are expected to participate in both the women's 6k and men's 8k races at the GLIAC Cross Country Championships. Additional details about these championships are expected to be announced soon.

Race results from the Jayhawk Invitational will be available on gvsulakers.com after they are finalized. A recap story will also be posted on that website once both races conclude.
