Grand Valley State University's men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Jayhawk Invite hosted by Muskegon Community College, achieving first and fourth place finishes, respectively. The men's team tied for first with Lansing Community College, each scoring 30 points and placing six runners in the top 10. The women's team finished fourth, collecting 127 points behind Wayne State, Hope, and Lake Superior State.
Freshman Will Engbers led the men's squad as the individual champion in the 8000-meter race with a personal-best time of 25:13.1. Jacob Esser followed in fifth place at 25:29.0. Other top-10 finishers for Grand Valley included Alex McArthur (seventh), Seppi Camilli (eighth), Zac Zemba (ninth), and Isaac Staib (tenth). Both McArthur and Staib achieved personal-best times of 25:35.4 and 25:38.2, respectively. Additional personal bests were recorded by Joey Rohmfeld (25:48.7), Ethan Parker (26:15.2), Brendan Chapple (26:20.6), Tyler Heath (26:27.2), and Adair Artis (26:48.3).
On the women's side, freshman Mackenzie Sellenraad led her team with a lifetime-best 5k finish of 18:51.0 to secure 16th place overall. Sydney Roberts finished 19th with a time of 19:05.9 in her collegiate debut, while Grace Oberski set a new personal best at 19:22.6 to finish 29th. Chloe DeRidder (20:00.0) and Kamryn Lauinger (20:09.4) completed their collegiate debuts in 47th and 52nd place.
The teams are scheduled to compete again next weekend at the Bradley Pink Invite in Peoria, Illinois before entering postseason competition.
