The Grand Valley State University women's soccer team, ranked second nationally, is preparing for its final road trip of the regular season. The Lakers will play against Parkside on Friday, October 17 at 2:00 PM ET, followed by a match against Roosevelt on Sunday, October 19 at 1:00 PM ET.
The Lakers recently secured a 2-1 victory on the road against Ferris State. Both goals were scored in the second half, with Ivy Wilhelm delivering the game-winning goal in the 77th minute. This win improved Grand Valley State's record to 9-1 overall and 6-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), placing them at the top of the conference standings with 18 points. Parkside is currently in second place with 16 points, though they have played one more game than GVSU.
This weekend’s match will be the second meeting between Grand Valley State and Parkside this season. The previous encounter took place two weeks ago in Allendale, where the Lakers won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Sarah Fromm in the 78th minute. In that match, GVSU outshot Parkside 14-4. The all-time record between the two teams now stands at 18 wins, five losses, and one draw in favor of GVSU.
Sarah Fromm leads Grand Valley State and ranks third in the GLIAC with 12 points from five goals and two assists. Both Fromm and Alli French are tied for first in the conference with three game-winning goals each. French has contributed four goals for eight points this season. Ivy Wilhelm has added three goals and three assists for a total of nine points. Goalkeeper Macie Hunter remains undefeated with a 7-0 record and a goals-against average of 0.15, making eight saves so far.
Sunday's match against Roosevelt will be the first meeting between these teams this season. Roosevelt enters with a record of three wins, six losses, and one draw overall, and a conference record of one win, five losses, and one draw. The team has scored 19 goals and allowed 23 this season. Last weekend, Roosevelt split its two GLIAC matches, defeating Davenport 2-0 before losing to Saginaw Valley State 4-1. Daisy Garcia is second in the GLIAC with 13 points from five goals and three assists.
