The Grand Valley State University women's soccer team, ranked No. 5 nationally, will play two home games this weekend as part of their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) schedule. The Lakers are set to face Davenport on Friday, October 31 at 5:00 p.m., followed by a match against Purdue Northwest on Sunday, November 2 at 1:00 p.m., which will also serve as Senior Day.
Grand Valley State recently improved its season record to 12-2 overall and 9-1 in the GLIAC after winning two home games last weekend. The team defeated Northern Michigan with a score of 3-0 and Michigan Tech 6-1. Junior Sonya Mehta was recognized for her performance, being named the GLIAC offensive player of the week after she "scored two goals and dished out two assists for six points in the win against Michigan Tech."
Sophomore forward Sarah Fromm currently leads the Lakers with seven goals and two assists, totaling 16 points, including three game-winning goals. Freshman Ivy Wilhelm contributed significantly last weekend with two goals and one assist; she now has five goals and five assists for the season. Mehta has accumulated five goals and four assists for a total of 14 points so far this year. Junior Alli French is tied for second on the team with five goals and shares first place in game-winning goals with three. Senior Kacy Lauer added one goal and two assists last weekend, bringing her season totals to four goals and two assists. Freshman goalkeeper Macie Hunter earned both wins last weekend, improving her record to 10-1 with eight shutouts.
Davenport comes into Friday's game holding a record of 4-8-3 overall and a conference mark of 4-6-1. This will be their first meeting with Grand Valley State this season. Last weekend, Davenport split its GLIAC matches by defeating Purdue Northwest but losing to Parkside. So far this season, Davenport has been outscored by opponents by a margin of 20 to 12. Ella Chatfield leads their offense with two goals and two assists.
Purdue Northwest holds a record of 5-7-2 overall and is 3-7 in conference play after losses last weekend to both Davenport and Roosevelt. They have been outscored by opponents this season by eight goals (19 allowed versus 11 scored). Mia Davis leads Purdue Northwest in scoring with six goals.
