GVSU women’s swim & dive defeat UIndy to close out final home meet

The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) women's swimming and diving team secured a win against the University of Indianapolis in their final home meet of 2025. The Lakers led throughout the competition, finishing with a score of 187-115.

The women's 200 medley relay team, consisting of Vittoria Proietti, Liv Geiger, Avery Rottier, and Samara Zeinert, took first place with a time of 1:45.90. Linda Frick won the 1000 freestyle event with a time of 10:48.50. In the 200 freestyle, Lucy Hedley finished first at 1:51.38 and Angelica Angilletta placed second at 1:55.76.

Ana Villamil took third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.16. Kelly Shortall won the 200 butterfly in 2:10.31 while Gaia Tomaselli finished third at 2:13.36.

Hedley also won both the 50 freestyle (23.58) and the 100 freestyle (51.10). Proietti and Zeinert placed first and second respectively in the 200 backstroke with times of 2:02.35 and 2:04.79.

Elliott McAlpine was runner-up in the 200 breaststroke (2:22.92), followed by Sara Alvarez who later claimed victory in the 200 individual medley (2:09.68). In the distance events, Proietti (5:08.41), Katie O'Connell (5:12.65), and Frick (5:14.54) swept the top three spots in the 500 freestyle.

On diving boards, Emi Goto scored second place in the women’s three-meter dive with a score of 250.28; she went on to win first place in one-meter diving at 262.80 points.

In relay action, Rottier, Angilletta, Villamil, and Hedley combined for first place in the women’s 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:29.03.

For GVSU men’s swimming and diving team, they were defeated by UIndy with a scoreline of 135-165 but saw several strong performances including wins from Matti Gaebler in the men's butterfly events as well as Evan Scotto DiVetta who captured victories in both sprint freestyles.

Carter Wood led on men’s diving boards by winning one-meter event scoring over three hundred points.

GVSU will compete next at Winter Invite hosted at Venema Aquatic Center starting December fourth.
