HOLLAND CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT: Return to School Roadmap Update 7.6.2020

Updates

Holland City School District issued the following announcement on July 6

Dear HPS families,

Last week Governor Whitmer, and her Return to Learning Advisory Council, shared Michigan’s return to school roadmap.  This document, accompanied by Executive Order 2020-142, provide school districts with extensive requirements and recommendations for reopening school in the fall of 2020.  As we prepare for the coming year, HPS must create three comprehensive reopening plans based on what phase Ottawa County is in. The phase can change throughout the school year based upon the status of COVID-19 in our community. Ottawa County is currently in Phase 4. Because there is no way to predict what phase we will be in come mid-August, our reopening will include plans for each of the following phases:

  • Phase 1-3: No in-person instruction, instruction must be fully virtual
  • Phase 4: In-person instruction with significant requirements for health and safety protocols, transportation services with significant requirements, remote learning plan to address individual family’s medical needs
  • Phase 5: In-person instruction with more flexible health and safety protocols
Our plans must fully address issues related to health and safety, instruction, and operations. More specifically, our plans must incorporate processes and protocols specific to personal protective equipment and cleaning protocols. Our plans will also include robust remote learning building upon what we learned from this past spring.

The guidance provided by Governor Whitmer’s roadmap is an important first step in providing local districts with the direction and clarity needed to begin creating reopening plans.

I recognize that our families are anxious to learn the specifics about our reopening.  Please understand that it will take a few weeks to finalize our plans.  Our advisory task teams continue to work in this regard. It is our hope that we have more specifics to share the first week of August. Our goal is to bring our completed plans to the Board of Education for approval at that time.

I appreciate your support and understanding as we navigate the complexities involved in our reopening. Our families and students have demonstrated that when we understand our expectations and work together for the common good of each student and family, we can make great things happen. This will be no exception.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any specific questions/concerns that we can assist with at this time.

Respectfully,

Dr. Brian Davis

Superintendent
