Mi

City of Holland issued the following announcement.

At 8:42 PM, firefighters were dispatched to a residential fire at 35 East 34th St. The occupants who safely escaped, reported a fire in the basement in a de-humidifier. Upon arrival

at 8:47 PM the first arriving firefighters from the City's Waverly Road station reported a heavy smoke condition inside the residence.  As additional firefighters arrived on scene,

crews were then able to enter the structure, confirm all occupants were accounted for, locate the fire and quickly extinguish it. Smoke alarms were present in the home and

according to the residents did operate.

With regard to damage, a portion of the basement sustained significant smoke staining and an odor is present throughout the home however quick action by firefighters limited

direct fire damage. Despite the smoke and odor the residents should be able to re-occupy the home soon.  The immediate cause of the fire is undetermined but early indications

suggest that it is unintentional.

There were no injuries to occupants or firefighters that responded to the incident. The department remained on scene for approximately 2 hours evacuating smoke from the home

and conducting air monitoring.

The Holland Police Department and AMR provided assistance during the incident.
