The Grand Valley State men's tennis team faced a narrow defeat against Wayne State, with a final score of 4-3 on Friday afternoon. This loss brings the Lakers' season record to 11-6 and their conference record in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) to 2-2.

Wayne State secured an early advantage by sweeping the doubles matches. Sean Miller and Victor Lopes lost a close match at the top doubles position with a score of 4-6. Chimo Minguez and Jorge Ruiz were defeated 3-6 at No. 2 doubles, while Stephen Claassen and Lawrence Ivanov fell short in a tiebreaker, losing 6-7 at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Victor Lopes emerged victorious after three sets at No. 4 singles, winning 6-7, 6-4, 6-2. Jorge Ruiz achieved a straight-set victory at No. 5 singles with scores of 6-4, 6-0. Chimo Minguez also secured a win in straight sets at No. 6 singles, finishing with scores of 6-4, 6-2.

Denys Zamaraiev experienced a tough loss in three sets at the top singles position, ending with scores of 4-6, 6-3, 1-6. Sean Miller was defeated in another three-set match at No. 2 singles with scores of 0-6, 6-2, and finally losing the third set at 2-6. Lucas Gonzalez was beaten in two sets at No.3 singles with scores of 2-6 and a tiebreaker result of 6-7.

Looking ahead, the Lakers are set to return home for their last two matches of the regular season next week. They will face Lake Superior State on Friday, April 19th at noon and conclude their regular season against Michigan Tech on Saturday, April 20th at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club.
