Grand Valley State University (GVSU) baseball team split a doubleheader against Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action on Saturday. The Lakers won the first game 10-5 but lost the second 12-11.
In the opener, GVSU scored early with Brendan Guciardo's single leading to Jake Rydquist's two-run home run. Ryan Dykstra doubled, scoring Ayden VanEnkevort and Kyle Nott, establishing a 4-0 lead. Guciardo hit a solo home run in the fifth inning. The Lakers added more runs in subsequent innings, securing their victory.
Kyle Nott achieved three hits, including a double and two RBIs, reaching his career milestone of 100 RBIs. Mike Morawski was credited with the win after allowing two runs over six innings.
The second game saw VanEnkevort score early with help from Nate Logan and Connor Schuman's doubles. Despite Nick Krstich's first career home run tying the game at 4-4, SVSU responded by taking a lead that they maintained despite efforts from GVSU hitters like Jonas Gulbrandsen and MacArthur Graybill.
Gulbrandsen hit two home runs while Logan and Anderson each drove in two runs for GVSU. The Lakers recorded six home runs during this game but ultimately fell short of victory.
GVSU will face Davenport University midweek before hosting them for a four-game series starting Friday at their home field.
