The GVSU women's lacrosse team is set to conclude its regular season home schedule with a game against Davenport this Friday. The match will also serve as the team's Morgan's Message dedication game, partnering with the organization to support athletes facing mental health challenges.
Recently, GVSU secured victories over Concordia-St. Paul and Northern Michigan, winning 18-4 and 13-2 respectively. Kaylyn Cater's performance earned her the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week title for her 15 saves across both games. Maddy Champagne contributed significantly on offense with nine points from five goals and four assists. Sydney Stone scored six times, while Ella Boose and Jillian Bingman each scored four goals. The Laker defense was effective, causing 19 turnovers and collecting 49 groundballs in two games, further reducing their leading scoring defense to an average of 4.79 goals against.
Davenport achieved their first conference victory since 2022 by defeating Concordia-St. Paul 12-9 on Sunday, improving their record to .500 at 6-6 overall and 1-3 in league play. DU goalkeeper Maisy Latus ranks second in the conference for saves (118) and save percentage (45.9). Maddy Haynes leads Davenport's scoring with 44 points and a team-high of 36 goals. In previous encounters this season, GVSU has outscored Davenport by a total of 66-17.
