Grand Valley State prepares for IWU Polar Bear Classic competition

The Grand Valley State track and field team is preparing to compete at the IWU Polar Bear Classic, hosted by Indiana Wesleyan in Marion, Indiana. The event will take place from March 22nd to March 23rd.

The competition begins on Friday at noon with field events. The Lakers will participate in only one event that day, the men's triple jump at 2:00 p.m., where Harold Gee will represent the team.

On Saturday, events start at 10:00 a.m. with both women's and men's pole vaults, followed by other field and sprint events starting at 11:00 a.m. A total of 14 athletes from the Lakers' pole vault crew will compete, including five women led by Taylor DeHommel and nine men led by Wyatt Alwine.

In throwing events, Kennedy Gardner will compete in both javelin and shot put for the women. Mason Floria and Ian Trall will do the same for the men, with Will Gaston joining them in javelin.

The jumps crew includes 12 athletes competing across long jump and high jump events. In men's long jump, participants include Luke Jelderks and Caleb Taylor among others. Joslyn Bentz leads four women in high jump competition.

Thirteen athletes are part of the sprints crew, which also features a men's 4x100m relay team comprising Henry Kennedy, Dominik Balenda, Andrew Pizzico, and Chrisly Kelly-Cannon.

Women's hurdles see Destini Dorkins among others competing in the 100m hurdles while Madelyn Allman takes on the 400m hurdles. Men's hurdles feature Mason Floria and Ian Trall in the 110m hurdles; Lance Riddle competes in both hurdle events.

Finally, Antonio Passarelli represents Laker men in the 100m dash alongside Henry Kennedy and Andrew Pizzico. Taylor Kyle competes for women in this event.
