Grand Valley State leads GLIAC Championships heading into final day

The Grand Valley State University men's and women's track and field teams are leading the GLIAC Championships as they head into the final day of competition. The men's team currently holds first place with a score of 130 points, ahead of Davenport and Purdue Northwest. The women's team is also in first place with 46 points, surpassing Saginaw Valley and Davenport.

Eli Kosiba made headlines by becoming the 2024 GLIAC Champion in high jump, breaking both the Grand Valley State school record and the GLIAC Meet record with a height of 2.28 meters. His teammates Jonathan Rankins-James and Jaivon Harrison tied for second place at 2.22 meters.

In men's hammer throw, Matt Thomas secured first place with a distance of 61.97 meters, followed by Shane Byrne in second place and Ty Anthony in fifth with a personal best.

On the women's side, Shelby Ulven led a sweep in hammer throw with a distance of 60.21 meters, followed by Alaina Omonode and Natalia Pluff.

Chrisly Kelly-Cannon claimed first place in men's long jump with a leap of 7.39 meters, while Luke Jelderks took second place.

Dolan Gonzales and Colton Emeott tied for second in men's pole vault at 4.95 meters, while Wyatt Alwine finished fourth.

Kayce Rypma won the women's steeplechase with a time of 10:36.18, while Caleb Futter won the men's event at 9:01.60.

The final day begins tomorrow morning at 9:40 AM with several events lined up including shot put where Myles Kerner ranks first nationally for Division II men.
