The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced the 2024 Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Year. The Grand Valley State Lakers achieved notable success, securing two out of four honors for this season. Caleb Futter was named Men's GLIAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, while Myles Kerner received the title of Men's GLIAC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year.
Caleb Futter concluded his 2024 outdoor season with a fifth-place finish in the men's 3000m steeplechase and a 12th place in the 1500m at the NCAA Division II Nationals, where Grand Valley State's men's team placed fifth overall with a score of 41.5 points. At the GLIAC Championships, Futter won both the 1500m and steeplechase events, earning him Track Athlete of the Meet and High Point Athlete of the Meet honors. He also set a personal best at the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet in the 1500m with a time of 3:43.12, breaking Grand Valley State's school record.
Myles Kerner ended his season as NCAA Division II National Champion in men's shot put with a throw of 19.94m, setting new records for Grand Valley State and Welch Stadium facilities. His performance contributed to Grand Valley State's fifth-place finish at NCAA Division II Nationals with a score of 41.5 points. At the GLIAC Championships, Kerner secured first place with a throw of 19.33m as part of Lakers' sixth consecutive and their total seventeenth program GLIAC title win. Throughout the season, Kerner achieved six first-place finishes including one at Texas Relays, ranking first in Division II, eighth in All-Collegiate, and seventh on Division II All-Time list.
