Grand Valley State advances in NCAA track championships

After the second day of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Emporia, Kansas, Grand Valley State University stands in third place for the women's team and fifth for the men's team. The Lady Lakers have accumulated 23.5 points, while the men's team has gathered 23 points.

The men's high jump was a significant contributor to these scores. Jaivon Harrison secured first place with a height of 2.22 meters, marking his second national title in his first season at Grand Valley State. Jonathan Rankins-James followed with a third-place finish at 2.16 meters, and Eli Kosiba took sixth place with a jump of 2.08 meters.

In the men's steeplechase, Caleb Futter improved his position significantly during the final lap to finish fifth with a time of 8:43.60, adding four points to the team's total.

For the women's events, Erika Beistle earned her second national title this season by winning the discus throw with a distance of 55.38 meters. Margaret Stevenson contributed further by finishing third with a throw of 52.01 meters, bringing in a total of 16 points for their team on day two.

The men's 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Steven Harris, Zach Pray, Fallou Gaye, and Myles Rhodes advanced to the finals after recording a time of 3:09.33 in the preliminaries.

Grand Valley State's schedule for Saturday includes various events starting at 10:30 a.m., including competitions in javelin, pole vaulting, shot put, and several running events.
