The Grand Valley State track and field team concluded the first day of competition at the Clark Wood Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky, on April 26.
In men's events, Myles Kerner and Matt Thomas participated in the shot put invite. Kerner secured first place with a throw of 19.59 meters, while Thomas achieved third place with a personal-best distance of 18.69 meters. Additionally, Thomas claimed first place in the hammer throw with a distance of 60.92 meters.
For the women's team, Margaret Stevenson and Erika Beistle finished sixth and seventh in the women's shot put invite, throwing distances of 13.87 meters and 13.78 meters respectively. In the shot put open category, Reette Thorns placed second with a throw of 14.14 meters.
In men's long jump open, Will Gaston placed 12th with a jump of 7.00 meters, followed by Caleb Taylor in 14th position with a jump of 6.97 meters. Alaina Diaz finished ninth in the women's long jump invitational.
On the track, Taylor Kyle set a new personal best time of 24.84 seconds in the women's 200-meter race, finishing in 14th place overall. Kate Zang came in at 18th place with a time of 24.90 seconds. In men's events, Nicholas Walper and Antonio Passarelli finished back to back in the men's 200-meter race at positions 12th and 13th respectively; Walper clocked a time of 21.82 seconds while Passarelli recorded a time of 21.90 seconds.
The second day of competition at the Clark Wood Invitational is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m., starting with the men's javelin throw followed by track events commencing at 12:15 p.m.
