Grand Valley State softball secures doubleheader sweep over Saginaw Valley

The Grand Valley State softball team secured two victories in their GLIAC road games against Saginaw Valley State on Thursday. The Lakers won the first game 3-1 and followed up with a 2-1 victory in the second, improving their season record to 26-13 and 9-7 in the GLIAC.

In the opening game, Saginaw Valley State took an early lead after a wild pitch in the first inning. The Lakers responded in the fifth inning when Morgan Spicer's single brought Eliana Eiland home to tie the score. In the seventh inning, Kelsey Komorous hit a two-run home run, her fourth of the season, securing a lead for Grand Valley State. Ashley Platek then retired the Cardinals' lineup in order during the bottom of the seventh to clinch the win.

Key performances included Hannah Hollister going 3-for-4 at bat with a run scored and Morgan Spicer contributing two hits and an RBI. Ashley Platek pitched all seven innings, allowing one run off eight hits and striking out two.

In game two, Grand Valley State opened scoring in the third inning with Kelsey Komorous driving in Jasmine Mauk and Eliana Eiland with a single. Saginaw Valley State narrowed the gap with a sacrifice fly but couldn't equalize despite having runners on second and third in the final inning. Nevaeh Ingram's pitching sealed their victory by inducing a groundout to end the game.

Nevaeh Ingram improved her season record to 6-0, pitching seven innings while allowing one run off four hits and striking out two. Kelsey Komorous recorded both RBIs for her team while Jasmine Mauk scored one of the runs.

The Lakers are set to face Davenport for another doubleheader on Saturday, April 20th at Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex, with live streaming available on FloSports.
