The Grand Valley State women's tennis team secured a narrow victory over Saginaw Valley State with a 4-3 win on Sunday afternoon at the GVSU Tennis Courts. This triumph brought the Lakers' season record to 9-8 and their conference standing to 3-2 in the GLIAC.

In doubles play, GVSU earned the point by winning two of three matches. Taylor Barrett and Neus Ramos achieved a 7-5 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Anna Soteras and Vale Mozas clinched a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles. However, Vasileia Griva and Rachel Sam faced a setback with a close 4-6 loss at No. 2 doubles.

During singles competition, Anna Soteras emerged victorious with a straight-set win of 7-6, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Rachel Sam also contributed significantly by securing a hard-fought three-set win of 6-7, 7-6, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. Vale Mozas added another point for the Lakers with her straight-set victory of 7-6, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.

Despite these successes, Vasileia Griva encountered challenges in her match, resulting in a tough loss of 2-6, 1-6 at the top singles position. Taylor Barrett and Neus Ramos both experienced difficult three-set defeats; Barrett fell short with scores of 7-5, 2-6, and 4-6 at No. 2 singles while Ramos lost with similar scores of 7-5, 2-6, and again, in the final set.

Looking ahead to their remaining regular-season matches, the Lakers will host Lake Superior State on Friday, April 19th at noon and Michigan Tech on Saturday, April 20th at five o'clock in the evening. The location for these matches is currently set for Premier Athletic and Tennis Club but may be moved to the GVSU Tennis Courts depending on weather conditions.
