Grand Valley State track teams begin new indoor season at GVSU Holiday Open

Grand Valley State University's track and field teams are set to commence their 2024-25 indoor season with the GVSU Holiday Open on December 8th. The event will take place at the Kelly Family Sports Center in Allendale, Michigan, starting at 1 p.m. with pole vaulting and the 5000m race.

Both the men's and women's teams aim to defend their GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Championship titles. Last season, the men's team secured their sixth consecutive and 23rd overall indoor conference title with a score of 279 points. The women's team achieved their 25th consecutive GLIAC indoor title with a score of 250.5 points.

In the previous NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, Grand Valley's men's team finished as National Runner-Up with 56.5 points, while the women's team placed fourth with a total of 48 points.

Notable achievements from last season include Myles Kerner defending his national title in shot put with a throw of 19.31 meters and Jaivon Harrison winning the Division II Men's High Jump Championship by clearing a height of 2.19 meters. Caleb Futter also won gold in the mile race with a time of 4:18.02.

On the women's side, Erika Beistle claimed an individual National Championship in shot put with a distance of 16.37 meters during the indoor season.

Lauren Kiley is highlighted as an athlete to watch this season after going undefeated in three championship races during her cross country season.

Tickets for the GVSU Holiday Open are available for purchase, while Grand Valley State students can attend for free with a valid student ID. Live results can be tracked online or watched via FloTrack, and updates will be shared on Instagram and X through @GVSUXCTF.
