At the GVSU Holiday Open in Allendale, Michigan, the Grand Valley State University (GVSU) track and field team achieved a significant milestone by setting 49 new indoor personal-best records. This event marked the first meet of the season for GVSU athletes, hinting at a promising season ahead.
The competition saw student-athletes from various academic years surpass their previous records, some dating back to their high school days. These achievements were compared against prior indoor track and field records listed on platforms such as TFFRS.com, Athletic.net, and MileSplit.com.
Among the male athletes who set new personal bests were Adair Artis in the 800m with a time of 1:56.67 and Bentley Alderson in the mile at 4:10.85. Quinton Bauer also improved his record in the 800m with a time of 1:52.77. In sprint events, DeMarcus Chapa recorded a time of 7.06 seconds in the 60m dash and Desmond Chapa clocked in at 6.97 seconds for the same distance.
In longer distances, Báhozhóni Church ran the 3000m in 8:16.86 while Koby Fraaza completed the 5000m race in under fourteen minutes with a time of 13:59.89.
On the women's side, Kate Aniolkowski set her personal best in the 400m with a time of 1:00.47 while Allie Arnsman completed her race over five kilometers with a time of 16:33.60.
Field events also saw notable performances; Michael Griffey threw for a weight throw distance of 19.49 meters among men, whereas Shelby Ulven reached an impressive distance of 18.85 meters among women competitors.
