Grand Valley State University is set to host its second track and field meet of the season, the Bob Eubanks Open, on January 18 at the Kelly Family Sports Center. The event will commence at 1 p.m., marking a return to competition for the Lakers after over a month-long break.
The Lakers began their 2024-25 season with strong performances at the GVSU Holiday Open in December, achieving 49 personal bests. This weekend's meet will see participation from both seasoned athletes and newcomers across various disciplines.
In jumps, notable participants include Lauren Rokos making her debut in high jump and senior Jaivon Harrison, who holds titles as the reigning indoor and outdoor national champion. Luke Jelderks and Alaina Diaz are leading in long jump entries. Nolyn Johnson III will represent GVSU in triple jump.
The pole vault events will feature twelve athletes from GVSU, including Colton Emeott and Brooke Bowers, who had commendable performances in December's Holiday Open.
In throws, national champions Myles Kerner and Erika Beistle will compete in shot put. James MacKey Jr. and Alaina Omonode lead entries in weight throw.
For sprints and hurdles, approximately 45 athletes are expected to participate. Taylor Kyle made it into GVSU's All-Time Indoor Record Book with her performance at the Holiday Open. Sam Coyle tied for ninth place historically in men's 60m dash times.
Distance events include Megan Postma competing solo in women's 600m while multiple men will represent GVSU across various distances such as the mile and 3000m races.
Tickets for the Bob Eubanks Open can be purchased online; however, Grand Valley State students can attend free of charge with a valid student ID. Live results will be available through Fairchild Sports Timing, and fans can view events on FloTrack or follow updates via @GVSUXCTF on social media platforms Instagram and X.
