For the week of January 20, 2025, three athletes from Grand Valley State University have been recognized as Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Athletes of the Week. The GLIAC announced these honors on their website.
Cara Newman, a redshirt freshman, was named the women's indoor track athlete of the week for her performance at the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open held on January 18. Competing in the 1 Mile event against over 60 athletes, Newman secured first place with a time of 4:57.30.
Junior Marcus Gelpi achieved recognition as an indoor field athlete after setting a personal best in high jump. At the same meet, Gelpi cleared a height of 2.21 meters after previous attempts at lower heights and surpassing his earlier record of 2.18 meters.
Senior Erika Beistle was named GLIAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week for her eighth career honor. Competing in the women's invite shot put at the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open, Beistle achieved a throw of 15.78 meters on her first attempt, securing first place in the event.
