Grand Valley State track teams shine during weekend competitions

Grand Valley State University's track and field teams concluded a successful two-day road trip with impressive performances across three events: the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational in South Bend, and the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational in Louisville. The athletes achieved four event wins and 26 top 10 finishes.

At the Midwest Classic, Grand Valley participated in seven events on the second day. Joshua Hurt and Ethan Smith both reached the podium in the men's 60m hurdles finals, finishing second and third respectively. In the 60m finals, Taylor Kyle placed fifth for women, while Myles Rhodes and Michael McNeil secured second and fifth places for men. Zach Pray excelled in the 400m, winning his heat with a time of 49.01 seconds. The men's team also claimed victory in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:12.99.

The Notre Dame Meyo Invitational saw Grand Valley athletes achieve six personal-bests, two season-bests, and one event win. Scott Spaanstra finished second in the men's 800m open with a season-best time of 1:50.10, closely followed by freshman Samuel Allen who recorded a personal-best time of 1:50.11. Addison Washler won her heat and overall in the women's 800m with a time of 2:10.89. Owen Westerkamp ran a personal-best to finish third in the men's mile at 4:04.25.

In South Bend's 3000m events, Lauren Kiley achieved a personal-best time of 9:13.90, placing sixth and becoming the second fastest in GVSU history for that distance. Natalie Graber finished ninth at 9:17.37 while Maria Mitchell recorded a personal-best of 9:29.05.

At Louisville's PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational, Brooke Bowers won the pole vault event with a height of 4.07m (13-4.25), setting a new personal-best that ranks sixth in GVSU history and seventh nationally among Division II athletes this season.

Eli Kosiba secured victory in high jump by clearing an impressive height of 2.24m (7-4.25). Mason Floria ended third overall after accumulating points through various heptathlon events including pole vaulting where he cleared heights up to rank fourth on day two.

The women's shot put featured strong performances from Erika Beistle who threw for fourth place at16 .22 m(53 -2 .75 )and Mackenzie Bohrer ranking eighth . Margaret Stevenson managed thirteenth place while Kennedy Jackson achieved sixteenth place with her personal best throw .

Gerald Capaccio alongside Andrew Berryhill represented men’s shot put achieving eighth & ninth positions respectively .

GVSU’s next competition will be held on February eighth during their annual Mike Lints Alumni Meet scheduled to start from one pm onwards .
