Holland Department honors Spencer Slenk as Police Officer of the Year

The Holland Department of Public Safety has named Officer Spencer Slenk as the 2025 Police Officer of the Year. The announcement was made by Chief Messer during the department's annual award ceremony. Officer Slenk was chosen by the HDPS Command Staff following his nomination for this honor.

Officer Slenk's nomination highlighted that he "is always positive, professional, and dedicated to serving his community and those he works with." He began his career with HDPS as a police cadet in 2015 and became a police officer in 2019 after graduating from the Grand Valley State University Police Academy.

Throughout his career, Officer Slenk has served in various roles within the organization. His positions include Field Training Officer, Honor Guard member, Tactical Team member, and a role on the HDPS Recruiting Team, alongside his duties as a patrol officer. Officer Slenk resides in Zeeland with his wife.
