After two days of intense competition, Grand Valley State University concluded the 2025 Big Meet in Allendale, Michigan. The event saw participation from 84 schools, 169 teams, and nearly 2,000 athletes across various track and field disciplines.
The Lakers secured seven event wins and achieved 15 NCAA provisional standards. They also recorded at least 16 personal bests during the meet.
In the sprints and hurdles category, Taylor Kyle led the women's team in the 60m dash with a third-place finish. On the men's side, Chrisly Kelly-Cannon ranked 11th overall. Brooke Barkocy excelled in the women's 60m hurdles by securing first place.
Alaina Diaz stood out in the women's 200m race by winning with a personal-best time that placed her third in GVSU program history. In men's events, Demarcus Chapa finished sixth overall.
The Lakers performed well in distance races as well. Cara Newman won the women's 3000m with a personal-best time. In relay events, both men's and women's teams had strong showings in their Distance Medley Relay debuts.
In field events, Ava Collier led Grand Valley's women pole vaulters while Camryn Battjes topped among men. Myles Kerner dominated shot put for men and Alaina Omonode won the weight throw for women.
Grand Valley's track and field team will next compete at home during the GVSU Tune-Up on Friday at Kelly Family Sports Center.
