GVSU concludes indoor track season celebrating seniors' achievements

Grand Valley State University (GVSU) concluded its indoor track and field regular season at the GVSU Tune-Up event in Allendale, Michigan. The meet also served as a celebration for 43 senior athletes, recognizing their contributions and achievements.

In the sprints and hurdles category, Melia Williams and Jayla Graham advanced to the finals of the women's 60m dash, finishing second and third respectively. Demarcus Chapa was the sole competitor in the men's 60m dash, securing third place in the finals. Brooke Barkocy led three Laker women in the 60m hurdles final with an 8.85 finish. Tayshawn Bester achieved personal-best times in both rounds of the men's 60m hurdles.

The Lakers showed strong performances in mid-distance and distance events. Jordyn Hopgood placed first in her mile heat, while Sean Marquardt won his section with a personal-best time. Caleb Futter had an impressive run in section one of the mile, finishing first at 4:02.36.

Katrina Sandman made her debut in the women's 800m, placing fourth. In the men's race, Quinton Bauer led GVSU with a fourth-place finish.

In field events, GVSU athletes excelled across multiple disciplines. The men's pole vault team took four of the top five spots, with Colton Emeott leading at 5.00m. Brooke Bowers tied for third-best all-time at GVSU with her pole vault performance.

Braden Prielipp topped the men's high jump event with a clearance of 2.04m, while Kaylee Diamond led Grand Valley's women in high jump at 1.73m.

Luke Jelderks secured first place in men's long jump with a leap of 7.24m; Alaina Diaz claimed victory on the women's side with a mark of 6.02m.

Nolyn Johnson III achieved a personal best in triple jump to win his event.

In throws, Andrew Berryhill led GVSU men in shot put with a second-place finish at 16.68m; Mackenzie Bohrer placed third for women at 14.51m.

Shelby Ulven excelled once more in weight throw by setting another personal best for second place overall among women competitors; James MacKey Jr finished second for men.

Grand Valley State's track and field teams will next compete at Saginaw Valley State University during GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships from March 1-2nd.
