Grand Valley State University (GVSU) baseball team secured a doubleheader victory against Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. The Lakers took the first game 3-2 and followed with a 10-3 win in the second game. Both teams will conclude their four-game series on Monday with two seven-inning games starting at noon Eastern Time.
In the opening game, GVSU scored two runs in the third inning, highlighted by Cole Mason's triple and Evan Morrison's single. The decisive run came in the fourth inning when Brendan Guciardo doubled and later scored off Ayden VanEnkevort’s single. Despite Drury scoring twice in their half of the fourth, Grand Valley State's pitchers limited them to four hits and nine strikeouts.
Evan Morrison contributed with two hits and an RBI, while Ayden VanEnkevort added another RBI with his two hits. Jayden Dentler earned the win after pitching six innings, allowing six hits and striking out nine. Owen Avery secured the save by pitching three innings, conceding three hits and striking out six.
In the second game, GVSU began strong with two runs in the first inning through Jovan Gill’s double and Jonas Gulbrandsen’s sacrifice fly. Although Drury initially led 3-2 by the second inning, Gulbrandsen hit a two-run homer in the fourth to reclaim the lead for GVSU.
The Lakers extended their advantage with five more runs in a sixth-inning rally that featured Nick Krstich’s double driving in two runs and Ryan Dykstra’s double adding another pair of RBIs. Gulbrandsen concluded his day with another home run for GVSU's final score.
Jonas Gulbrandsen was instrumental throughout both games, achieving three runs from his two homers along with four RBIs. Other key performances included Jovan Gill scoring thrice from his two hits and Ryan Dykstra contributing two RBIs.
Overall, Grand Valley State amassed 20 hits across both games while limiting Drury to five runs on 12 hits combined over both matches. The Lakers’ pitchers collectively struck out 26 batters during this doubleheader sweep.
