Grand Valley State University (GVSU) split a doubleheader against Drury on Monday, February 24, 2025. In the first game, Drury managed a comeback to win 6-5, while GVSU secured victory in the second game with a score of 9-4. This result allowed GVSU to take the weekend series with three wins out of four games. The Lakers are scheduled to face Indianapolis in a four-game series starting Friday, February 28.

In the second game of the doubleheader, GVSU took an early lead and maintained it throughout. The team scored one run in the second inning, two in the third, and four more in the fourth to establish a commanding 7-0 advantage. Sophomore catcher Nick Krstich contributed significantly by doubling home center fielder Ayden VanEnkevort for an initial lead and later hitting a home run that brought in two runs. Junior first baseman Jovan Gill also made an impact with multiple hits and runs batted in (RBI), including a home run.

Drury responded with four runs in the fifth inning but could not close the gap as GVSU added two more runs in the sixth inning. Freshman pitcher Sebastian Talaga earned his first win of the season despite allowing four runs on four hits over several innings. Allan Thorington was credited with a save after conceding just one hit during his time on the mound.

Gill's performance stood out as he went three-for-three at bat with two runs scored and four RBI. Krstich also had notable contributions with two hits resulting in three RBI and one run scored.

In contrast, Game 1 saw GVSU build up a promising lead only for Drury to stage a late comeback facilitated by unearned runs across two innings. Despite having built up a 5-1 lead through consistent scoring efforts from players like Brendan Guciardo and Evan Morrison, defensive lapses allowed Drury to clinch victory via walk-off fashion.

Collin Bradley started as pitcher for GVSU but did not factor into the decision despite delivering five strikeouts without any walks over several innings pitched.
