Grand Valley State wins against #5 Indianapolis

Grand Valley State University secured a 4-1 victory over the fifth-ranked Indianapolis team on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers, now holding a 6-2 record, will face Indianapolis again in the final two games of their four-game series on Sunday, March 2nd, starting at noon.

The game began with Grand Valley State making an impact in the second inning. Designated hitter Brendan Guciardo, third baseman Caleb Estrada, and center fielder Ayden VanEnkevort each hit singles but managed to score only one run. The Lakers then took a lead in the third inning with Ryan Dykstra hitting a solo home run to right field. Zach Warren added another solo home run in the fifth inning to extend their lead further. An insurance run was added in the seventh when Dykstra and first baseman Jovan Gill walked at the start of the inning. Right fielder Jonas Gulbrandsen's single and VanEnkevort's infield hit brought Gill home.

Senior right-handed pitcher Jayden Dentler achieved his second win of the season by allowing one run on seven hits and striking out two batters. Allan Thorington earned his second save of the year after giving up just one hit and striking out one batter over two innings.

Ryan Dykstra and Zach Warren both contributed with solo home runs for Grand Valley State. Ayden VanEnkevort had two hits from five at-bats with an RBI, while Brendan Guciardo recorded two hits including a double and scored a run. Caleb Estrada also made significant contributions with two hits from four at-bats, including a double.
