Grand Valley State University's baseball team emerged victorious in two games at the RussMatt Invitational held in Davenport, Florida. The Lakers defeated Tiffin 9-3 and then overcame Malone with a 16-9 win. The team will wrap up their Florida trip by facing Minnesota State on Saturday at Pat Thomas Stadium in Leesburg.

In the first game against Tiffin, Ryan Dykstra hit a solo home run to level the score after Tiffin's initial lead. Ryan Stimac contributed significantly by hitting a three-run homer, increasing the Lakers' lead. Jonas Gulbrandsen also played a crucial role, scoring twice and driving in another run. Pitcher Jayden Dentler secured his third win of the season, while Edward Konow earned his first career save.

During the second game against Malone, GVSU took an early lead and maintained momentum throughout. Evan Morrison and Brendan Guciardo were key players, with Morrison scoring multiple times and Guciardo hitting a grand slam. The team amassed 14 hits and benefited from ten walks.

Will Goebel started for GVSU but was relieved by Ayden VanEnkevort who claimed the win after pitching effectively in relief. Jack LoConte, Ty Randall, and Jovan Gill also contributed from the bullpen.

The Lakers demonstrated strong offensive capabilities across both games as they prepare to face Minnesota State next.
